Acute Alcohol Poisoning
Acute alcohol poisoning is a dangerous condition that arises as the result of binge drinking – drinking large amount of alcohols. Although it is not always fatal, depending on the amount of alcohol it can pose a serious threat to your life. If you suspect someone is suffering from this type of alcohol poisoning, you must seek immediate help.
There as difference between passing out and suffering from acute alcohol poisoning. When a person is poisoned by alcohol, he or she cannot be awakened, so first try to check if the person responds to you, if not check the other symptoms such as difficulty breathing and cold blue-ish or pale skin, or even vomiting without waking up. Difficulty breathing occurs when the person breathes slowly or irregularly.
If you find a person in this state, it is extremely necessary to call Emergency, the patient needs to be monitored immediately, or else alcohol can end with a life. During the time you wait for help to arrive you also need to be responsible and help the person, this is done by insisting on waking her/him up, and turn her/him on the side to keep them from choking on the vomit. In some cases, when breathing stops, CPR is needed.
As you can see, this is not something to toy with. According to some statistical studies, at least once a week one person dies from alcohol poisoning. We have to be aware of this problem and warn our kids and friends about the dangers of binge drinking, especially if we recognize the symptoms of alcohol dependency on them.
